Schrannenhalle (Market Hall)

Schrannenhalle (grain market hall) with Schrannenplatz and farmer's market

The building next to the parish church St. Jakob once housed the church school. In recent years it was used as a market hall for the town of Dachau before it became  cultural centre under the direction of the Dachau Cultural Departement in November 2010. It features a cabaret stage on the upper floor where concerts (jazz to singer-songwriters), theater, readings, cabaret, and poetry slams are presented.  For infomation on current program please click here

The Dachau Artist Association uses a small area on the ground level as their gallery and there is also a café-bistro and restaurant upstairs.

Om market days farmers of the area would sell their produce on the square in front of the building, especially grain towards the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
The term Schrannenhalle refers to this period of grain-selling.
