Christkindlmarket Dachau

Each year the Christkindlmarket Dachau opens on Friday before the first Advent. Every day until Dec. 23rd, the scents of roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, ginger bread or cinnamon and vanilla but also many hearty German favourite street food flavours such as deliciously barbequed Bratwurst or Schnitzel fill the air. Christmas lights illuminate the square in front of Dachau townhall and the freshly cut Christmas trees, surrounding the wooden huts spread the fragrance of wintery forest and seasonal cheers.

Apart from seasonal treats, the Christkindlmarket features daily entertainment on its small stage. Performances include various children choirs singing traditional Christmas songs or local orchestras with seasonal melodies, but also local rock and pop bands as well as Gospel choirs. One of the annual highlights is the visit of a group of 'Perchten', an alpine tradition of scary costumes in a procession to chase out the bad spirits of the old year.
